The First Day: Complete Rundown

Watching: Suns Vs. Pistons on MLKJr day.
Listening: New Mix Tape I made for Ryan. It's awesome I don't want to give it up.
Reading: Hilye's Currents. I'll have to do that one next time.

They are still wearing their wedding rings because a)they are just beautiful and he designed them!!! and b) because they are just too freakin' expensive to pretend like they never existed and c)if you were married to BRAD PITT would you ever take that ring off? Seriously.

I almost forgot to update you guys. This working thing will kill a girl. I laid down for a nap at 7:30pm, with the best laid plans to wake up at 9pm and sort clothes and watch the Bachelorette. But now its 11:29 and I just took my contacts out and my bed is calling me back for part 2. So sorry if this is a little brief.

Started the New!Job! Finally today. Ah, corporate life. I strolled in around 9am, only for everyone to be in a tizzy about the new phone system that had swooped in over the weekend and ruined everyones life. That's what you get for working on MLKJr day, that's what I say. Payback from a dead guy, it's serious. Anyway, around 9:14 the HR Director came down to fetch me and I filled out my paperwork and so forth. It was pretty easy, but it was also the third confidentiality agreement I've signed and I guess three for complete emphasis and all that, so I guess I won't be spilling any trade secrets here. You'll have to find a different journal for that. For the sake of everything, including mostly my job, I'll just refer to everything about working at the MP in generals. Most importantly I got a pay schedule in the midst of all the paperwork. First check Feb 11th!!

After the paperwork I went to drop all my crap off at my New!Desk! and that was fun. It's a real desk, albeit a cubicle with soundproof walls, but its so roomy and spacious and the seat is ergonomic and their is a jump stool for any visitors. And they both match - mine are orange. There is a little closet, and I was given a box of supplies and encouraged to really jazz up my area with as much personality as I can muster. We all know - that's not much; but I'll give it a valiant try. Next stop was the grand tour of the office. Favorites about it are that the walls are all painted funky colors like a spiced orange, lemon yellow, lavender bluish, sage green, eggplant. Yummy yummy colors! And the sunlight is beautiful, it really makes it feel like a fun environment. Hopefully that isn't false advertising. The HR Director Denise was funny and great and totally welcoming, and ten minutes on the tour she says to another HR girl, right in front of me, "I can totally see why her team fell in love with her. She's awesome!" Aw, tear! On our tour we stopped to talk to almost everyone, including a New Dad who was back to work after a three week paternity leave. I learned more about their pregnancy, birth, first hours after the birth, feeding schedule, and grandparents who want to babysit but who really can't hear or drive at night, before I even knew the guys name. It's Michael, by the way. And the baby's name is Elizabeth, but don't you dare be calling her Beth or Lizzy; he'll cut ya.

After the tour we returned to my desk, but I didn't have a computer or a new phone yet, and everyone was still working out the bugs on the new phone, so my team did the logical thing: they took me out to lunch! On my first day. Awesome. We went to Fishbones and due to MLKJr, there was virtually no one there and that was awesome. At the end of the lunch they did a toast to me and how happy they were that I was on their team. And a toast to my soon to dissapear waistline, because they plan to make me huge as a house; I work with a bunch of foodies! They jumped from one food topic to another, telling me how much tastetest food and extra client food is always left over and how thats just one of the perks of working there. Good thing I joined LifeTime Fitness! They will try to make me fat, but I will be 150 by March (so I can cross it off my list of 25 by 35).

Still no computer when I returned, so I still just kinda hung out, wrote my days off on the group March calendar (totally no problem, I've got March 10-14 off for the Boston jaunt now Ryan), cheered that I got good Friday off and tried to look busy on my sticky notes. My regular schedule is 9am-2pm everyday, but I didn't really have anywhere else to be but another interview at 4:45 in Novi, so I hung around and shadowed a couple of group members who tried to show me in the most complicated way possible, the seemingly easy tasks I'll be taking on. So to sum up the day: love the environment, can't wait to get a computer so I can update at work; still not quite sure what I'll be doing at work, but I can't wait to get to it!

Did I mention another interview? Yes, apparently I'm jamaican now. I went on an interview at LifeTime Fitness opening in Commerce and March. I totally wanted to tank the interview because I was tired and just wanted to go home and watch the Pistons. I didn't tank the interview; half way through the HR lady says "I'm pretty much going to offer you the job, so let me just tell you how this is going to work." If she does pretty much offer it to me this weekend, there will be a couple of conditions (I'll like this me being in control and being choosy) namely I can't start work til the 15th of March (they open on the 4th) and I can only work one night during the week (preferably Mondays 7pm-11pm) and a long day saturday (preferably 12-8pm). If they put up with me for that, god love 'em, my membership will be free and I'll have $60 going out/gas money every week. Plus my website work PLUS most importantly staying on the pioneer list; it's going to be a busy year. But I think after last year I deserve it. And if I'm a little less social, well, I pushed the limits of social activity last year. I was ridonkulous.

Okay I know I said I would be short, and I totally wasn't, but one last thing as a teaser for next update: Motown Winter Blast, we are totally going Friday night, get ready I'll be calling you, yes YOU, on Wednesday-ish.
