Knitting and Sweet Sweet Music

Watching: The Bachelorette
Listening: Okay, I put in the Secret Machines. But I really want Matt Pond PA back.
Reading: About new Pistons-boo Carlos Arroyo.

Okay this really IS about knitting and new music, but first it's about how my baby and his new brother are probably not only the most gorgeous babies I've ever seen but most likely the most gorgeous people too. Here's Ethen ... he's still only 1! He's got the on-the-floor sultry model pose down already. And the wind blown half-smile pose.

And here is Evin (Yea, its Evan) working those blue eyes his daddy blessed him with.

I am in love.

So when does knitting cross the line and become an unhealthy obsession? Monday out in service, all I wanted to do was swerve into JoAnn Fabrics and pick up some yarn to finish up the green scarf that has yet to be gifted to someone. And then because I was there I bought some gorgeous burnt orange 100% merino wool yarn that is so perfect for... I don't know who yet. And then because it was there I got some deep blue and green wool yarn. Out $20 in under 20 minutes. At JoAnns! Then I got home and all I could think about was finishing the green scarf. I watched two episodes of Gilmore Girls, The Bachelorette, The rest of the Pistons/T-Wolves, Oprah after the Show and the Daily Show (that's 4.5 hours) and I finished it. I am in love with it. It's got a crazy random knit-purl pattern and ahem...even though it is a gift for some lucky guy, I wore it to work today. You know, to make sure it works and all. It works beautifully. I figure I could ship it out to Boston since they'll probably have that snow around til March; but this is now the second scarf that started out for Niko that ended up someone elses. But I saw this beautiful grey chunky knit wool yarn that says Niko all over it. As my mom says "winter is only so long." Well, in Michigan, at least that "so" is so much longer than everyone else. I figure I'm good making scarves til April. But what will I do with my time then?? Prepare for next winter I suppose. I just had a brill idea - for Tom and Shannon who are coming home from a four-month stint in Aussie-land: new matching scarves! See I could totally do that. It's better than flowers.

And the other new obsession in my life is music. The trends in music in my life come and go more quickly then the morning tide. I'm not really a music elitist (although, admit it, everyone gets a little surge of je ne sais quoi when they've discovered a band that only a few have previous privileged knowledge); I love pop music, I even love some rap as long as it's got a catchy beat I can drop it like it's hot to. There is nothing wrong in liking radio music the first 50 times you hear a song. But when you want something new, where do you turn? For me, it's always the indie music scene, which I'll call it although please don't ask me to define "indie." It's one of my least favorite title names; It's such a broad category! And if I had to choose I'd be more of an indie pop girl - the music that is still poppie (doesn't that just mean popular?) but just lesser known. And I'm a sucker for the synthesizer, and catchy riffs, and a strummy-la-la guitar, and... I just like good music. Enter the new host of music I've come across. Well we all know about me and the Killers all of last year, but this year has cropped up some goodies, mostly from last year that I hadn't taken the time to discover. 2004 was a pretty good year in music ya'll! Thanks to RyanMast I've recently acquired some frickin' good tunes. I'm going to keep talking about Matt Pond PA - Emblems until you go out and buy it or ask me for a copy. You know those Yoplait commercials? It's is sooo good. It is lemonade on a summers day with nothing to do good! It is finding the perfect dress and then you get to the register and it is half off good! And The Walkmen fresh from the Saturn commercials and 2003's "Everyone who pretended to like me is Gone" is back with Bows and Arrows. Sometimes I feel so clueless when I step out into the world of non-radio music. But feeling out what you like and determining your own style is part of the fun and totally worth it. And there is a lot of stuff I've yet to discover that you probably have and love! So let's do an exchange. I'll make a mix-CD for you and you can burn a little ditty for me. Omar @ Terribly Happy is mixing one up for me as soon as I send him a SASE. Let's spread the music love around.
